Impressive Hotel Mackinac Island is a popular summer weekend getaway from Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago and Detroit. With summer temperatures in the 70s and absence of cars, it is a calming beach vacation destination. People celebrate the final weekend of the season big on the island. They are two races; the first is half-marathon and second one being the five-mile walk run. Guests vote on dozens of pumpkins carved by the staff, kids trick-or-treat in the hotel, and there's a pumpkin roll down a hill toward the lake.
