Mackinac Island is located in the middle of Michigan State. It has an area of about ten kilometer squared in the Lake Huron. The Island has become a popular summer spot due to its historic conservation and refurbishment thus it is considered a National Historic destination. One of the existing historic monuments is the Victorian Grand Hotel which exuded the ambiance of the late ninth century.

The most common attractions of the Mackinac Island are the historic architectural designs of the houses, the numerous world class golf courses and events, and the absolute barn on all types of automobile in the Island. The largest part of the Mackinac Island has been reserved as the State park where numerous activities as camping, biking, skiing and walking can be done during the right season. It forms an ideal itinerary for the summer and vacation for all including family travel. In winter the Island can also be used by winter travelers hence can undertake winter activities as cross country skiing.

The Mackinac Island has much to offer as there are many century old retail shops and restaurants. The Island is also famous for its fudge which has given the tourists the name ‘fudgies’ due to their indulgence in eating them. In additional to the many restaurants that litter the streets there are many hotels and bed and breakfast outlets thus your accommodation is assure. The population of Mackinac Island is varied with most people making visits in summer. The population is also enhanced by the annual meeting of the boy scouts and girl guides from all over America. Their presence in alternating periods is also an attraction as they participate in rising and lowering of the Islands flag everyday. This group also volunteers to undertake crucial projects as rehabilitation of dilapidated building and infrastructure, environmental conservation and tour guiding. They are well housed in the scouts barracks located on the Island.Mackinac Island has diverse geographical features that include the different terrains, beaches, wetlands, cliffs opening into the ocean, coral shoreline and many other attractive types of scenery. The Island is also a hub for the existence of diverse flora and fauna.  You will be pleased to watch several species of birds, reptile and mammals on the Island. The access to the Island only through the ferries is another addition tot the excitement. In summer there are three ferry services which bring people to this Island. The ride is full of fan and one to remember. The rates are fair and you get to arrive to your hotel of residence safely.


The climate of Mackinac Island is excellent with the summers calling for lighter clothes. The mornings are a bit cold but the afternoon warm. It is advisable to carry warm clothes with you inspite of it being summer. The winters are extremely cold with the water of Lake Huron being turned to ice. This occurs mostly in February thus if you travel around this time be in no hurry to leave the Island; communication is affected greatly.
